Seville
is a lovely city with a fascinating history, duly reflected in its
diverse and renowned architectural heritage. There are hundreds of churches and tiny streets to discover in Seville and a charming old
town to walk about.
But
it's not just about the outstanding sightseeing venues and fantastic
archaeological remains only. It's the athmosphere of the living and
developing environment that can't be beaten. One can get easily bored
with museums and monuments, but would never tire of fantastic parks,
attractive squares, colourful markets or breathtakingly beautiful
orange trees lining the streets. Likewise, I couldn't possibly have
enough of street art. And here, in the capital of
Andalusia, one can see a lot of great graffiti. That is by the
agency of what this 3000-year-old city creates a youthful impression
both upon residents and visitors.
New skatepark
of Seville is a great place to start with exploring the little gems
of the local graffiti artists' handiwork. There were many of them (Bonim,
Logan, Ed, Sex and Ome) who participated in designing this facility,
turning the hard concrete walls into a vivid museum of urban art.
The work of some graffiti artsits (grafiteros) from Seville (Logan,
Ed, Psiko, Otes, Pat and Chiki) can be seen in a short collaborational film “Dos
Sombras” shot in Seville, directed by Pawel Kloc (a Polish), produced
by Mike Denny (an English) and scripted by Carmen Quijada (a Sevillian).
Then, you can watch a video
about some of the grafiteros competing with each other in a local level
contest:
Municipality has also, from time to time, run projects to have some objects pimped by graffiti artists, an example of which being containers in the street. A blogger, Lorena Vitoria, has same samples of these on her blog, but at large, they look like that (photo from a blog of Mª
de los Angeles):
There are, certainly, a couple of guys to pay special attention to; Logan and Seleka, for example. Here are some swatches of Logan's artwork (pictures taken from the KELP.cl website):
As the last one was made together with Seleka, I continue with showing more of his work. The following photos of Seleka's work of art are taken from aerosolstreet.blogspot.com.
Nuria Lora, an Andalusian
photographer and graphic designer has also recorded graffiti in Seville. Here are a few shots of hers taken from her
blog.
You can find a lot of good material uploaded on Flickr too. Manuel Jesús, Doggympus and Lou Rouge, for example, have done a really wonderful job as you see (respectively):
I personally am an enthusiast of stencils that say something deep, poetic or socially intriguing. There are some samples from this genre findable on Flickr as well, for instance in the gallery of Jadeeey:
There are a few more Flickr users whose galleries I suggest you have look at to find a lot more good pics of the graffiti beauties of Seville: El Museo Del Graffiti, Óscar Armenteros, Lilja Kjerulf, Chris Baggins, sandrit y sus cosas, NANDE84, crackrocksteady, enplaytime, txmx 2, and chmee.
To cap off the post, a bit more of graffity in the form of vertical poetry. The first two photos are taken from flordeladulcamara.blogspot.com, the third from the same blog, and the two last ones from elblogcanalla.com.
And, here you have an inmense
collection of the street art of Seville.
